Vintage Bonwit Teller Ashtray brass Rare smokers memorabilia. This is an ashtray bearing the mark of For Bonwit Teller, Made in Hong Kong. I dont know if this was actually used in the New York Bonwit Teller department store or was sold in the store, or both. Please check the photos for measurements, I have have taken a couple with a ruler in the pictures.。As a bit of history, Bonwit Teller was a high end department store built in the late 1920's in New York City, and purchased by Bonwit Teller around 1930. The art deco department store was destroyed in 1980 to make way for Trump Tower, and an important piece of NY art deco style was lost.。Now you have a chance to own a piece of this history. I do not know the actual year this was made, I had to choose the 50's because Etsy forces the choice of a decade.。The ashtray unscrews smoothly into 3 pieces for easy cleaning. I have not cleaned or polished this item, please check the photos for signs of oxidation. I do not know the type of metal, if it's solid brass, brass clad or gold plate.
